I agree. I definitely would have to be feeling it for a particular piece of art, in order to buy it. If it appreciates later, all the better.

Yesterday I went to the art-galery we regurarly go to, to confirm that we were going to buy one of the paintings of Peter Keizer (http://www.peterkeizer.nl). The galery owner said that she explained something about the works, it might resemble more like a sales-talk, than when the artist himself talks about the work (he was present at that time).
My remark on this is that noone can sell a painting to us, as we only buy things we like on 'first sight' and not because we are sold something.
 

I think the article on buying art is right on. I am a member of a cooperative gallery of artists that allows 24-hour approval if the buyer wants to be sure it fits in their home or office. I believe some living artists' work can be a very good investment, but that should not be the reason for purchasing art, in my opinion. Personally, I only buy things that really appeal to me on a deep level.
 

I am an artist and artists' representative and I find that all buyers of artwork are so different. Some buy for purely aesthetic reasons, others buy because of an emotional tie to the work and still others buy because they see the value of the artists work increasing.
