ArtDaily.com, Going, going, staying..
"Economic fatigue" is troubling the great daily art news site ArtDaily again. Art Daily nearly shut up shop twice before due to finances, or lack of them, and thankfully they're going to keep going again.
Art Daily's founder Ignacio Villarreal is handing the "Art Daily" reigns over to his son Ignacio Jr. (and senior writer for the past 5 years at ArtDaily).
"I think that if our readers keep supporting us with their visits, the museums with their very valuable information, and future advertisers, the party, because editing ArtDaily is a true party, must continue." Ignacio Villarreal
I think its hard for many artists or those involved in the arts to take money for something they're passionate about, but while ever we need money for food and rent, we should happily commercialize our passions. If it means a painter learning about business and marketing to survive, or an art newspaper having to look more like the New York Times to survive, than so be it.
I love this quote by the art dealer Mary Boone..
"I had reservations about making art a business, but I got over it."
