I recently researched information about Benvenuto Cellini's recovered Saltcellar of Francis I, truly one of the most wonderful art works every created. In doing so I stumbled upon Cellini's own autobiography, still available in print form. I started reading. What a colorful character, even if he does say so himself! He outright tells potential readers that he relates bad incidents about himself to make the good incidents more believable. Cellini was in constant trouble with the law, both civil and papal, his whole life. And that doesn't include the frequent altercations with the husbands of errant wives. It's surprising Cellni ever had time for art. Definitely an entertaining read.

Sounds like an interesting person Brenda. In the 20th century Benvenuto Cellini probably would of hung out with the abstract expressionists! ;-)
 

Cellini as an abstract expressionist, huh? I have to confess I don't know any who claim to be AE personally, although I suspect that may sometimes be a catch-all category. Are they conceited like Cellini? Do tell. ;-) Still, when you really are as talented as Cellini was, that may not be conceit, just perhaps well justified confidence, right? Who's to say?
