  Putting your art Online
Here's an article over at Linkism.com discussing a couple reasons why and how to put your art online.. (I think most artists have already done that, right?)
Getting Your Art Online
"Having an online portfolio of art is now almost essential for artists worldwide. It was once the territory of the brave and adventurous to have your art displayed online, but now it is only the foolish that do NOT have their work online. Many savvy artists are even bypassing traditional art galleries and making a comfortable living selling their work online.
Telling your traditional art gallery to go jump isn't recommended just yet, but having your work online can open many new doors and get your work seen by a whole new audience that would have never seen it hanging in a traditional gallery. It can be a complimentary marketing tool with your gallery if you have one, or it can be a portfolio to get you noticed if you are just starting out."

BgArt News Blog Comments:
Having your art online is an absolute MUST for any artist half serious about making a full or part time living from art!
The problem with many artists is they are timid and dont have the faith to invest in themselves. Being a successful artist is not unlike running a business, which should invlove planning, marketing, book work, and a lot of hard work (not just when you feel inspired to walk into the studio).

I use EyeForArt.co.uk to display my work. They specialise in current and recent art graduates and seem to be the media's favourites at the moment. I keep reading about them in TimeOut and other mags.

Admittedly, I've only had one offer for my work so far but my partner's sold four in the last six months through them.

They take 25% commission which is the lowest I've seen on the net so far.

Boy, this sounds like an advert for them but no am really impressed with them!

Posting your art works on line makes even more sense when you don't have to pay for the brick and mortar galleries eating half of your lunch. sites like www.robertbenjamin.com cost a small fee per year to keep on line and the pay load can be well worth the price of the site.

One of the most interesting websites I have come across for looking at, learning about and buying contemporary art and photography via the internet is http://www.buynewart.com

They Specialise in bringing artists and collectors together. The work looks great and I think the website is really well laid out.

It's great the the internet is being used in this way and the more traditional approach to selling work through commercial art galleries is begining to be broken down and therefore the work is becoming much more affordable and accessable. Rock on buynewart an art idea for the 21st century.

Another option is putting up your own website.

A webhost won't be taking a percentage of your profit per work sold, nor even a flat fee per work sold.

You'll be able to display as many or as few works as you like while only needing to pay for hosting and bandwidth (often bundled together in a flat fee per month depending on how much traffic you'll use... could be anywhere from $2 per month on up). And you'll have complete control over the presentation of your website.

Having your own domain name is another plus, since through it you can to some extent control your patron's first impression and build name-recognition.

Something to think about.
