BgArt News Blog Questions
I was asked some questions about buygazette.com recently. It was for an art magazine, but their email was sent to my Yahoo mail, which I rarely check. So I'm probably too late to be mentioned in their story, but questions are good to work out why you do what you do. So, here they are..
Are you an artist yourself?
Yes. I'm an Australian artist that has been neglecting the easel way too much lately. I've traveled around a bit too much in recent years, which has kind of left me without a studio. The plan is to settle somewhere this year and focus more of my time holding a paint brush and less of my time traveling.
When and why did you start the blog?
BgArt News Blog was started about half way through 2004. I started it to share my love of art, to learn more about art, and to keep up with what is happening in the art world. It was definitely not started to
make money from though, and it still has very few advertisements on it.
How do you decide what to feature?
It's often quite a selfish thing deciding what news to publish, as I usually just add posts that interest me. I have been learning to broaden my range though, otherwise I would just talk about expressive contemporary painters everyday.
People also send in art news or announcements and if it seems news worthy it gets listed. I generally try and look for
interesting stories, rather than just adding every press release or gallery announcement I come across.
What do you hope people get out of the blog?
I hope they come across art news that they haven't seen before. If they have an opinion on a news story, they can also add it to the
comments.
How often do you update the site?
It varies quite a bit. I try and post daily, but I don't beat myself up if I miss a couple days here and there. It's not like a job that I have to turn up to everyday, it's a place where I can indulge my passion in art.
Also, although this wasn't one of the questions, I thought I might think about the future of BgArt News Blog too.
I hope to post more often, more regularly. Inviting a few people to add posts could also be an option, allowing the opinions and stories to be more varied. Like most things in my life though, I take each day as it comes and decide which path to take when I come to it.
