  Tom Cruise and South Park
tom cruise - south parkTom Cruise seems to be in the news for all the wrong reasons lately. It is reported that the actor and scientologist, Cruise has threatened to not promote his upcoming film (Mission Impossible 3) if Comedy Central aired an episode of South Park that poked fun of the "religion". Viacom (makers of MI3) is the parent company of Comedy Central (makers of South Park). Scientology seems to give people an attitude and rob them of a sense of humor.
The "Trapped in the Closet" episode from season nine of South Park had Tom Cruise refusing to come out of the closet and made fun of scientology.
The creators of South Park released this press release..

"Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for Earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!"
Trey Parker and Matt Stone, servants of the dark lord Xenu

The voice of the Chef, Isaac Hayes has also recently quit the show as his sense of humor was stolen by scientology.
"The Closet" the Controversy and Tom Cruise
"Parker and Stone publicly parted ways with Isaac Hayes, the longtime voice of Chef, after the "Shaft" legend complained South Park had gone too far in satirizing religion. The duo said Hayes, a Scientologist, never complained about the show until it took on Scientologists." E Online

South Park was also under attack by Catholics recently too.

BgArt News Blog Comments:
Happily, I know nothing of the program, little of Mr. Cruise, and just as little about scientology. However, if I have learned one thing, and, perhaps in my 76 years I have only learned one thing,it is the truth of the statement that humor which attacks the other guy is funny, that which attacks one of ones own beliefs is quite unfunny. Substitute something like ....insert any term characterizing what your best friend, spouse, or lover has a strong commitment to, and picture yourself making fun of it. I would not ask we choose one of our own beliefs since few, if any of us, can see ourselves accurately.
I believe, in a long-ago time before the changes wrought in the last 40 years, Mr. Justice Douglas, whom I will not categorize, look him up yourself, so that I will not be accused of misidentification, said of a free speech case that had come before the Supreme Court, an American has the right to be free of attack by law or government for what he says but he is not protected from (various forms of) legally protected action by other private citizens who dislike what he has to say.
As the ancient saying goes, ones responses to the exercise of free speech depends on whose ox is being gored as a consequence of that speech.

Real "freedom of speech" seems to vary by country. Which probably comes down to.. "don't attack our beliefs, but you can attack those of others".

If a belief is worth believing in it should be able to handle a little constructive criticism from time to time.

Greeting,
I love South Park, Mission Impossible, Chefs voice on South Park, and apple pie. What the heck tom and shaft dude voice of chef guy? Its a freaking cartoon. Do you think us masses are gonna turn retard against scientology after seeing the cut episode of South Park. Do ya think I throw my tv out of a speeding plane cuz my kid might see a rerun of shaft as he hits someone with his (oh my) fist. Its just a freakin cartoon!
Enough said...I must go back to protecting the spiked planet from vicious attacks from the surrounding moons.
kind regards
Unison of the Universe
