Most Expensive Living Artist – Lucian Freud
Lucian Freud has become the most expensive living artist at auction with his “Big Sue” painting. The large naked woman painted on a couch is called “Benefits Supervisor Sleeping” and sold for $33.6m or £17.2m at Christies last week. The sitter is Sue Tilley and she sat for Freud over a four year period.Continue Reading

Lucian Freud the Great
I think it’s safe to say that Lucian Freud is the greatest living painter of the figure. Even his bad paintings are better than the best work of most other artists.
If you don’t think Freud is the greatest, you may still find the way he works fascinating.
He recently finished painting the 26 year old art handler for the Victoria & Albert Museum, Ria Kirby. It took 16 months of sitting for the artist, 7 nights a week, for 5 hours each night, and the sitter only had 4 nights off during that time. That’s more than 2,400 hours of sitting, or in this case lying down.Continue Reading

Lucien Freud Number One in Britain
The Great Art Fair in London has done a poll to find out the favorite artist of artists at the event. Lucien Freud has topped the list, with Leonardo nowhere to be seen in the top ten.
Other notable artists that never made the grade were contemporary artists like Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin. They seem to get the vote of the media with anything they do deemed newsworthy, but artists at the Great Art Fair didn’t feel the same way about Hir-min.Continue Reading
