5 Things I Hate about Pinterest

pinterest for artists

So, the last post I made about Pinterest was Pinterest and I on our honeymoon. Everything was perfect, we never argued and we thought we would live on the beach sipping cocktails for the rest of our lives. Well, a thousand or so pins later and now I see that Pinterest isn’t perfect. She’s still better than any of the social media alternatives and I still love her, but here’s a few things that bother me..Continue Reading

Art Plus Pinterest Equals Awesome!

I haven’t been posting much on BgArt News Blog lately as I was lost in a cave, but I’m out now and the art sun is shining, so I’m sure I’ll be out there looking for all sorts of arty things to talk about and share in the coming weeks. Something that I have discovered and fallen in love with just recently is Pinterest!! I have had an account for ages now but it just never clicked with me, I didn’t know what to do with it. It is THE social media platform for artists.Continue Reading

Street Art Around the World

street art worldwide

I dislike “do no evil” google as much as any other global behemoth with a monopoly position in their industry but they do put out some good free stuff. Their Street Art Project is a global look at what’s happening on outdoor walls around the world. It’s an ongoing project that will improve over time but there’s already a good range of street art and graffiti to browse. I chose to share some of the street art from areas outside of the major art hubs of the world as that’s just the way I am ;-) Continue Reading

The Romanian hacker known as Guccifer, most famous for releasing the George W. Bush paintings to the world, has been sentenced to 4 years in prison. The taxi driving hacker could spend up to 7 years in prison as he already had a 3 year suspended sentence to his name for hacking into the accounts of Romanian public figures. The 42 year old Marcel Lazar Lehel hacked into the accounts of notable people worldwide by guessing the password security questions of accounts using information easily accessible to the public.Continue Reading

10 Crowdfunding Sites for Artists

crowdfunding or crowd sourcing websites

Did you know that the video game called Star Citizen raised more than $40 million from crowdfunding? One part of the money was raised using Kickstarter and the other independently on their own website. Quite a few crowdfunded projects have raised more than a million dollars but there must be thousands of small projects being funded as I’m forever seeing campaigns pop up on my facebook feed and in my email inbox. Artists are in on the action too. We’re funding books, exhibitions, travel, and all kinds of other wacky things. Here’s a list of 10 crowdfunding websites (there now seems to be hundreds of them out there!).Continue Reading

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Opens Up with 400,000 Images Online

The Metropolitan Museum of Art digital images

This is such a great way to lose an hour or two online! The Metropolitan Museum of Art has grown its image archive online by 400,000. The museum is allowing free access to the images and free non-commercial use. They’ll be Open Access for Scholarly Content (OASC) which means they’re freely available to use for scholarly and academic publication. My only question is what took you so long? It’s 2014!Continue Reading

BgArt News Blog Search Terms

funny search engine terms

One of the things that I used to enjoy with BgArt News Blog before I abandoned it back in 2010 was going through the search engine terms that people used to find the blog. Some are weird, some are funny, many are sexual, and a lot are sick, but they’re still just as interesting as ever. Continue Reading

BgArt News Blog on Social Media

social media blogging

I never really got social media when I was posting on BgArt News Blog a few years ago. Not long before I quit posting I started a Twitter account and Facebook account for ANB but I never really did anything with them. This time around I’ll make an effort with social media as I’m a little more comfortable with it all and I can kind of see why everyone is using it.Continue Reading

Amazon to Sell Art Online

Amazon to Sell Art

Amazon.com is planning to start selling art online again according to the Wall Street Journal. They plan to sell more than just posters and prints though, they plan to sell art with lots of zeroes on the price tags. Their cut for their part in the transaction will be between 5 and 20 percent.Continue Reading

Art Podcasts

I’m probably one of the last people in the world to own an Apple iPod but it’s better late than never. I bought an Ipod Classic which has 120gb of storage on it. If “gb” doesn’t mean much to you it simply means it has more storage than a lot of personal computers and can store a LOT of songs.

I bought it as I desperately miss my CD collection when I’m not at home. I’m planning an extended road trip around the South East of Australia (Canberra, Melbourne, Tasmania, etc.) and I plan to take my whole music collection with me on my iPod.Continue Reading
