Danila Tkachenko’s ‘Restricted Areas’ project is a look at once important areas in Russia which are now deserted. Abandoned government projects, hidden cities, forgotten science, and empty buildings that were a part of a technological push forward. The cold Russian winter and the lens of Tkachenko have teamed up to remember these areas and make them beautiful. White is my favorite color Continue Reading

Aerial Photographs of Beijing by Trey Ratcliff
I have been browsing the web for quadcopters and the aerial photography that can be taken with them and came across the story of Trey Ratcliff in Beijing. He was using his ‘New DJI Phantom 2 with Zenmuse H3-3d 3-axis Gimbal and Gopro Hero 3+ Black Edition‘ quadcopter to photograph the Forbidden City in China and was detained by Chinese authorities. They released him and confiscated his equipment but luckily for us he had already been filming Beijing for 5 days. Here’s some of what the photographer captured..Continue Reading
I Ran Away to Sydney
Being the professional that I am, I just abandoned the blog for a few days while I wandered the streets of Sydney. I used to do it a lot more often during my pre-mortgage days and my pre-crap-earnings days, but now I’m forced to make this one little muddied puddle as interesting as I can. So I really appreciate the rare moments where I do escape, even if it’s just down to Sydney which is about an hour and a half drive. I caught up with some friends and never went into one single art gallery, which is usually the only reason I go to Sydney. I’m now feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world again! Here’s some holiday snaps..Continue Reading
The Amazing Nature Photography of Guido Mocafico
I seem to be mentioning animals quite a bit lately. When things get tough I usually retreat to nature, so it would make sense that if I’m blogging through a challenging period there will be more nature posts. Enough whining from me though, check out the patterns and colors on these beautiful snakes photographed by Guido Mocafico! I have a snake phobia as most of the deadliest snakes in the world seem to like living in Australia, but I can still appreciate their beauty. Guido is Italian, born in Switzerland, currently living in Switzerland and working in France, so lets just say he’s a European photographer ;-) Continue Reading
Weird and Wonderful Nature Photography
I sometimes wonder why artists bother when I look at nature. We have nothing on her awesomeness! All we do is splash about in the bath while nature roars with all the might of the ocean (hat tip to Salvador!). The taxonomist Arthur Anker does a great job of capturing some of the smaller, more beautiful and interesting parts of nature with his photographs of bugs, frogs, crabs, and other creepy crawlies. Continue Reading
Surfing Photography of Will Adler
As much as I love beaches and the ocean, I rarely ever go out into the water. I’m afraid of sharks, stinging jellyfish, fish with spikes in the sand, and rip currents! Everything is trying to kill you at the beach. My friend is a surfer and talks about sitting out there on his board while sharks calmly swim past. I’ll stick to the sand until I grow gills and sharp teeth Anyway, I’m getting sidetracked. Will Adler is showing some of his beautiful beach culture and surfing photography at the Danziger Gallery in New York. Continue Reading
Really Old Nudes – Centenarians
The Centenarians series by the American photographer Anastasia Pottinger is a look at the human body after more than 100 years of usage. They’re close up details of aging bodies in black and white, with the subjects remaining anonymous. They could be your grandmother, your grandfather, or you yourself after a few more trips around the sun. Continue Reading

Queen of England does a Poo
The paparazzi are not really photographers, they’re not really people either, they’re more annoying mosquitoes than anything else. But people keep lapping up their voyeuristic wares and the paparazzi continue to put food on their tables. So they’re just giving us what we want and you can’t blame them for wanting to make a living. A guilty pleasure I admit to is when they capture the rich and powerful ruling elite of the world in compromising situations. Like the queen of England with her pants down, reading a magazine on the toilet, taking a crap.Continue Reading
